Volunteer: Food Sorting or Packing Food Boxes

What to Expect:

For our Food Sorting or Packing Food Boxes volunteer opportunity, you'll help us inspect and sort through donated dry goods, meat, or produce before they get distributed to our neighbors in need. You also might help with our Snack Pack program, in which you will pack bags of nutritionally dense, delicious, and easy-to-prepare meal options for children in public schools. These are intended to be take-home bags during the weekends and breaks, where they will otherwise be missing the meals provided at school. The type of project is decided on by the needs of the food bank.

Qualifications Ability to stand or walk for 2-3 hours at a time. Ability to lift 10-30 pounds. Age Requirements

Minimum age of 14 is required for our warehouse shifts.  Volunteers 14 & over must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Attire

Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing as our warehouse is not climate controlled. Closed-toe/closed-heel shoes are required.
No crocs, flip-flops or sandals. No loose jewelry or headphones.
Please bring a jacket or sweatshirt for the possibility of bagging produce in our walk-in cooler.

Reminder

We welcome you to volunteer with friends, family or co-workers. If you will be volunteering as a group, please be sure to respond to this opportunity using the "respond as a team" feature. All volunteers must be registered, as we cannot accommodate walk-ins. Please kindly be on time and stay for the entire duration of the shift.

Volunteers arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be able to participate as our orientation provides important safety information and instructions for the project.

If you need to cancel your shift, please go to your account and cancel your reservation or email us at volunteerprogram@feedingnefl.org.  We count on a certain number of volunteers to make our projects a success and meet our needs for distribution each week, so it's crucial for us to fill these spots. This also allows volunteers on the waitlist the opportunity to join the shift.
